Stingray Nautica

Manuel Di Nunzio is the very young owner of Emme Nautica, a company founded just a few years ago but with many years’ experience in the pleasure boating sector thanks to his father Michele di Nunzio, founder of Arte Nautica, a company that has specialised in the construction of fibreglass hulls and superstructures for over 30 years. Young Manuel soon joined the company, learning the art of fibreglass and boat assembly. His passion for custom boats led him to experiment with a hybrid solution of an inflatable boat with a jet ski console at the centre and a classic handlebar. The project is very popular in the lakes and rivers where he experiments with this particular boat. In June 2022, he decided to build a watercraft based on this experience and contacted engineer Alessandro Dondi, owner of Dondi Ingegneria Srl. Dondi Ingegneria is a historic company in Milan founded in 1958 by Alessandro Dondi Senior.

Dondi Ingegneria’s core business has always been industrial mechanical design in the most varied fields of the mechanical and automatic industry, but it has also ranged over accessories for pleasure boats. Alessandro Dondi enthusiastically accepted the challenge of designing this new hybrid boat on an industrial level, involving not only his own designers but also the well-known industrial designer Federico Villa. Federico Gerna, a designer specialised in pleasure boats, also joined the team. In a year of hard work, the first prototype of the Stingray model JST30 came to light in July 2023 just in time to present it at the 63rd Genoa Boat Show in September of the same year.

The design hand

Federico Villa’s approach to design is based on a fundamental concept:
A design object must, undoubtedly, be ‘beautiful’. But first of all, it must be ‘right’ for those who commission it: it must realise a dream, give substance to a vision.
This is why, through a close relationship with the customer, it aims to study his needs and desires, with the objective of identifying the best solution for the realisation of each idea.
Federico Villa – Industrial Design follows the project in every single phase, from initial studies to industrialisation, combining a careful series of analyses (technical, market, image) with a profound knowledge of the product and the correct technologies to be used.
